August 2 - August 4
The Export Development Board has informed that the National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA) of Sri Lanka, the premier government organization involved in the promotion & development of Inland fisheries and aquaculture in Sri Lanka wishes to organize a mega aquarium fish & related products exhibition – “MINVISITHURU” from 2nd – 4th August 2019 in Colombo, Sri Lanka together with the EDB, Sri Lankan Airlines, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Ceylon Hotel Cooperation, Aquarium fish & Aquatic Plants Association and Ornamental Fish Exporters Association.
This is the only exhibition dedicated to this sector in Sri Lanka and it is an ideal platform to meet breeders, farmers, accessory suppliers & exporters and other stakeholders on a single platform. The 8th edition of the exhibition will cover the areas of marine ornamental fish and invertebrates, freshwater endemic exotic fish species, aquatic plants, accessories & equipment and investment opportunities available in the ornamental fish trade.
It has been stated that Sri Lanka has the distinction of being the first country in the world to collect and trade ornamental fish from the wild since the 1930s, and has continued to date and Sri Lankan ornamental fish enjoys a high export demand. This demand is owing to a conducive climate and the availability of coral reefs, sand bars, and lagoons around the country as well as inland water bodies such as streams, rivers, and reservoirs which provide the ideal ground for breeding of marine, brackish and freshwater species in Sri Lanka.
According to the trade statistics, major buyers of Sri Lankan ornamental fish are from the USA, Japan, and the European Union (UK, Germany, and France) and the EDB has identified Qatar, Canada, and the UAE as emerging markets.
